Transform to PHP 5 now!

On August 7th 2008, the PHP community (www.php.net), released their last and final version of PHP 4 - 4.4.9, thus bringing to an end, the release and usage of the most widely used PHP version ever. PHP 4 had many advantages when introduced and many content management systems readily embraced it when it was initiated. It became an instant hit with the programmers, but slowly as it was widely used, exploits were discovered and it was clear that a better platform was required which would eventually iron out the flaws and exploits in PHP 4.

PHP 4 has served the web developer community for seven years now. However, it has become old and has been exploited to its maximum. Most of PHP 4's shortcomings have been addressed by PHP 5, released three years ago, but the transition from PHP 4 to PHP 5 has been slow. The initial versions of PHP 5 have been unstable, but with PHP 5.2, things have been brought under control. Most of the web hosts now provide PHP 5 and PHP 4 as options for customers.

Developers have also been busy modifying their products to be compatible with PHP 5. With PHP 5 comes a host of new powerful abilities which add to the coders ammunition kit. PHP 5 certainly is much more secure than PHP 4 and has true object orientation built into it. With PHP.net announcing its final release for PHP 4, its high time that customers, developers and web hosts move to PHP 5.

At JV-Extensions, we have made sure that, all our products run on PHP 5 and PHP 4. If you do find any issues specific to PHP 4 or 5, please do let us know immediately. The JV-Extensions team is making a sincere request to all our customers to move your PHP installations to PHP 5 and progress for the better. Sometime very soon, we plan to exploit the latest PHP 5 only features in our products to give better performance and speed and user experience. This will require you to use PHP 5 only for our products to run in the future.

If you have any software products running only on PHP 4, contact the vendor and get your updates for PHP 5. All web hosts are moving to PHP 5, all the develpers are moving towards PHP 5... So dont be left behind, contact your hosting provider now and transform to PHP 5.
