Question Translations, sorting, importing, recommend, forms

Hi, I intend to convert my website to a Joomla!-driven one. As a directory is my main feature, I've been testing the JV-LD demo and the product looks very good, but...
    - There are no backend translations available. I think that this feature would be necessary for many administrators who don't understand English.
    - Links cannot be sorted manually. This would allow the admin to decide what is important in each and every case.
    - No mark of language and/or country of the link. Having them would be interesting for some admins and users.
    - Import utilities. It is not possible to import bookmarks files from browsers, like bookmarks.html from Firefox.
I will need to import 7,000+ links classified in many categories and sub-categories. Will it be easy to do?
    - The display time seems rather slow to me. How will be its performance with thousands of links?
    - The user can recommend a link to a friend, but not a category nor the whole directory. Am I wrong?
    - No 'reset' button nor 'cancel' button in forms. I think that they are necessary to prevent users to be confused.

    - There are no backend translations available. I think that this feature would be necessary for many administrators who don't understand English.
We understand your concern, but there are too many messages (almost 500 to 600 of them currently) to be made available for translation in back-end. This will take time, but we will certainly make it available from one of the coming versions

    - Links cannot be sorted manually. This would allow the admin to decide what is important in each and every case.
This is something that has been discussed in our forums already. JV-LD also offers link exchange features, in addition to directory features and hence the impact of fixing the position of links needs to be studied in depth, before we provide such a feature. We are already doing this.

    - No mark of language and/or country of the link. Having them would be interesting for some admins and users.
This is an interesting suggestion. Taken and you will find this soon!

    - Import utilities. It is not possible to import bookmarks files from browsers, like bookmarks.html from Firefox.
This is an interesting suggestion again. We will certainly look into the feasibility of it.

I will need to import 7,000+ links classified in many categories and sub-categories. Will it be easy to do?
Importing links from CSV or TXT files is already possible in JV-LD. You may please visit the Utilities section in the demo admin backend to see it in action.

    - The display time seems rather slow to me. How will be its performance with thousands of links?
We have not seen any delay from our side. We will check it anyway. Is there any specific page that you see this delay in?

    - The user can recommend a link to a friend, but not a category nor the whole directory. Am I wrong?
Yes you are right. Right now, user can only recommend a link and not a category or whole directory.

    - No 'reset' button nor 'cancel' button in forms. I think that they are necessary to prevent users to be confused
This can be added to the forms. We will do it in the coming versions.

Thank you for giving inputs to improve the product.

Thanks for your quick response, sniranjan.

IMHO i18n is the key to massive success of any software, but specially when it comes to open source. However, you don't even mention multilingualism in your (long) feature list.
I suggest you to look at this seriously, taking into account SEF-SEO and alphabethical order.
Moreover, 600 lines is not much. You can rely on the community to have them translated. I can tell by experience, because I've done translations for Joomla and non-Joomla projects.

I think that many non-profit sites won't need the exchange feature. It may be a good idea to split one-way from two-way linking somehow. I understand that the origin of JV-LD was JV-LE, but IMO LD could focuse on directory features, among which the ability to sort links manually is a plus, if not a must, since it reflects the reliability and prestige of human-edited directories (see ODP).

This is an interesting suggestion again. We will certainly look into the feasibility of it.
This should not be difficult, I guess. For example, the users could be asked to export their favorites/bookmarks first using their browsers.

Importing links from CSV or TXT files is already possible in JV-LD. You may please visit the Utilities section in the demo admin backend to see it in action.
I will have to convert to CSV first, but I will try anyway.

Maybe I was too demanding, and speed is affected by how much stuff must be processed and rendered each time. Don't worry about it.

Yes you are right. Right now, user can only recommend a link and not a category or whole directory.
Extensions like JM-Recommend, although old, may be inspiring to implement these features. They permit to recommend the site or just one page.

Thank you for giving inputs to improve the product.
    You're welcome.

This is because we rely on the community to do the translations of our product and we dont do it on our own. As said, we will certainly get this into the product sometime soon.

Link exchange functions cannot be delinked from the product, as it is one of the base requirements. If you look at the history of this product, we have been increasing more and more directory features into it in the last 6 months. Even in the current version, there is a clear demarcation of one way and two-way links. You will find more and more directory oriented featured getting in.

This should not be difficult, I guess. For example, the users could be asked to export their favorites/bookmarks first using their browsers.
We too hope so. We will check the technical feasbility anyway

I will have to convert to CSV first, but I will try anyway.
A certain input format is anyway required, for JV-LD to import links. We have chosen CSV, which is the easiest one

Maybe I was too demanding, and speed is affected by how much stuff must be processed and rendered each time. Don't worry about it.
We are already working on improving the performance to a small extent, for large directory sites by revamping some parts of the code in 4.4 version.

    Thank you again.
