The Joomla Project is proud to announce the immediate availability of Joomla 1.6 beta 9 (download). IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a beta version and is not intended to run any type of production site. It is intended to be used for evaluation purposes only.

Since the Joomla 1.6 beta 8 release on August 23, we have fixed approximately 69 issues in the tracker. This progress is directly related to the continued efforts of the Joomla! Bug Squad. Thanks for all your hard work in bringing us one increment closer to stable!

See the CHANGELOG for details of what has been changed in this release.

What's next?

This is the ninth in our series of continuous beta releases. Beta 10 will be released on September 20, 2010.

In the same lines, today, we have released the first maintenance release of JV-LinkDirectory 4.5, which is JV-LD 4.5 Build-288.

JV-LD 4.5 Build-288 has fixes for several bugs, some of which are important, especially if you are using SMTP to send emails from Joomla for JV-LD or if you have enabled link statistics to be sent to link owners. All customers are requested to upgrade to this maintenance release as soon as possible.

This release does not have any database level changes. Hence instead of going through the regular upgrade process of un-installation

We have a suggestion.
As a lot of pages nowadays have their own RSS-feeds it would be amazing to have the possibility to add these. This would be such a great service for the users.

For example you could set a field where the RSS-feed link can be pasted, and a field besides how the Link name is defined (like RSS-symbol - "Art News")

This gives the possiblity to use a local directory, a remote sorce like Photobucket, or a CDN, for example.

2) The ability to show a banner and text description together as one entry. At present if a reciprocal linker adds both a banner and text link JV-LD alternates between them randomly. It would be nicer to display the text under the banner, or as a "read more" option. We've experimented by creating 2 top-level categories: "Banner Exchange" and "Directory" and allowed linkers to add links to both - This gives a tidy banner-only page, and a separate text-based directory - However, it also means you're giving TWO links to the external site for their one link to you :-(

3) The ability to EDIT your text and banner profiles. At present you can only add or delete them.

4) The ability to add a single linkable line of text under each banner in a banner-only directory.

5) The ability to specify different "alt" and "title" tags for each banner.

One does not have to think too deeply as to whether the the cost of their extensions, especially JV-LD is worth the money. The professional look it gives ones website says it all.
