JV-LinkDirectory 4.8 Dev Update: Websnapr – Additional Thumbnail Provider Support

Here we are, yet again blogging about a change that we are introducing in JV-LinkDirectory 4.8. As you already know, you can display thumbnail previews of websites in the directory against each listing. This is possible, as JV-LD dynamically fetches thumbnails from Shrinktheweb.com (STW) and displays them in your link listings. STW is our official partner for thumbnails and we strongly recommend them, due to the quality of their services and thumbnails.

Nevertheless, there have been a few requests from some customers that, we provide them with alternate methods of fetching thumbnail previews. One way is to provide a way to upload thumbnails. While this is being considered for future releases, we have come up with yet another integration – this time with another powerful thumbnail provider viz. Websnapr (websnapr.com).

websnapr lets you capture screenshots of (almost) any web page. Allow your visitors to instantly visualize any web page before clicking. Increase site traffic, click-through rate and site stickiness. It is similar to STW in many aspects and they too offer free and paid accounts with them. JV-LD 4.8 will have the ability for you to decide between using STW and Websnapr as the provider for your thumbnails.

For now, JV-LD will only support the free accounts at websnapr. As before, you can decide the size of thumbnails that you want to show at various places by configuring the options in admin back-end. For using Websnapr, you will need to sign up for a free account with websnapr.com and use your websnapr account’s API key in JV-LD configuration

We hope you like this change. Feel free to comment on this blog post and let us know what you feel.
