As you already aware, JV-LinkDirectory provides "Advertisements", a revenue making feature by which you can add advertisements or banners or any HTML/non-HTML content in pre-defined slots in your directory. Till date, to achieve this you had to create advertisement specification ( adspec ) or slot, add fee plans and then add advertisement (HTML) to that slot. Besides, you had to create a template override to add the advertisement specification code to the template where you want the advertisement to appear.

From the usage statistics and feedback from customers, we realized that administrators found this process tedious and time consuming, especially creating a new advertisement specification or slot and making the template overrides. So in JV-LinkDirectory 5.12 we decided to simplify this and make it really easy for admins to add advertisements.

With JV-LinkDirectory 5.12, the software will include 30+ predefined advertisement slots. After installation, the admin needs to visit the back-end and just add the advertisement to the slot where they want it to appear. So this will be a one step process! Isn't that simple and easy? You can use this to add your google adsense code or add any type of HTML code that you want to show in your directory in specific places!

advertisement specifications

The 30+ slots have been carefully thought of and identified at strategic places in the directory where you or your site visitors may want to place the advertisements for maximum visibility. Advertisement specification code or adspec codes for all these slots have already been included in the template files in 5.12 version. So as admin you dont need to do template overrides or create new adspecs to add advertisements in these slots.

The only time when when you need to add new adspecs is when you want the advertisement to appear in a position other than these pre-defined slots, which we expect to be rare scenarios. Nevertheless, we have provided you the facility to create new adspecs from back-end as before. As admin you may also edit the adspec to define a fee for your visitors to pay for placing their advertisements in your directory!

In JV-LinkDirectory 5.12 we have also provided a small feature to toggle the behavior of the "Text when no Ad". Typically as admin you can decide whether to show "Advertise Here" image or leave that space empty for any slot in front-end. In JV-LinkDirectory 5.12, we have added a button in back-end with which you can toggle this behavior for multiple adspecs with one click.

Hope you like these usability enhancements for using the advertisements feature in your directory! Do comment and let us know what you think :)

    I like this feature
    I suggest
Add different banner sizes in the theme
    For example
    250 x 250 – Square
    200 x 200 – Small Square
    468 x 60 – Banner
    728 x 90 – Leaderboard
    300 x 250 – Inline Rectangle
    336 x 280 – Large Rectangle
    120 x 600 – Skyscraper
    160 x 600 – Wide Skyscraper
    300 x 600 – Half-Page Ad
    970 x 90 – Large Leaderboard

As admin, you may want to define your own sizes for advertisements that can be added to slots. This is already configurable in advertisement specification and you can modify the Banner Ad - Width and Height by editing the adspec where you want a different size. You can specify any size that you want. See image below. It is much more controllable this way for admins.

How to add a custom ad to a specific position. How should the Adspec Code * look like in order to get it working?
