Today, we are happy to release 5.16.2, the next version of JV-LinkDirectory to all our customers. Though 5.16.2 is a minor version, there are a few important bug fixes, changes and new additions that we have brought into it. Please read on to know more...
Bootstrap 4 Support:
JV-LinkDirectory CSS and UI have now been modified to make it compatible with Twitter Bootstrap 4.5.3 version. This is also a change that will make it work with a number of Joomla templates that work on Bootstrap 4. The layout template files in JV-LinkDirectory have been modified in 5.16.2 version to get parity, and same look and feel across Bootstrap 2.3.2, 3.x and 4 versions.
Category Blocks Design:
We have introduced a new home page design concept in 5.16.2 version. This design will include showing the top level categories in the directory home page as blocks with different background colours that can be configured and shown randomly. You will be able to decide the width of the block as well. The highlight of this feature is the ability to use your own background images for each block instead of using random colours! You can even mix it up with random colors for few top level categories, and background images for rest of them!
Typically, when you enable google maps extra field in JV-LinkDirectory your users will see a popup in their browser when they visit your website, asking for permission to use their location. This is important for many functions in JV-LinkDirectory that rely on user location to work, like distance of listings from user location, radius search etc... But sometimes, you may not want to use those features but still want to show the map. This was not possible earlier. In 5.16.2 we have introduced a new option to not load geolocation script even if maps are enabled.
Comment Option while Bookmarking Listings:
Upto now, whenever a user bookmarks or adds a listing to his favourites, they must add a comment. This comment is intended to record notes regarding the listing and the bookmarking. This can usually help users understand why they bookmarked the listing in the first place. Some administrators may not want to force their users to add a comment for every listing that is bookmarked. To facilitate this, we have now added a new option for admin. The admin can now decide to make it optional for users to add comments while bookmarking listings.
Default Thumbnail Images for URL-less Listings:
Thumbnails when configured can be shown to all listings that have URLs. Listings with no URLs cannot have thumbnail previews shown for them. But there are cases when you have a directory that has listings with URLs and another set of listings that do not have a URL. When you view those listings in different areas of the directory, your users may see thumbnails appearing for some, and not for others. This may not be as aesthetic and a good visual experience for your users. In 5.16.2 we added a new new option in Thumbnail Preview Settings to upload and use a thumbnail image of all sizes for listings that don't have a url.
Software Listing Block Design:
Based on feedback and usage pattern of our customers, we see Modern and Default listing blocks being widely used, and Software listing block design is hardly used by our customers. To reduce the code footprint and focus on more important features, we decided to remove the Software listing block design in 5.16.2 version.
No more Pop Ups for certain Directory functions:
You would have noticed certain functions like tell a friend, alphabar, claim listing, add bookmark, delete bookmark etc... show up in a popup window when clicked. This sometimes is not very appealing in different view ports. We have now removed the popups to provide a uniform directory browsing experience for your users. These functions will now work like others without popups.
Hope you like the new features and changes introduced in 5.16.2. Customers who have a valid purchase/subscription of JV-LinkDirectory can now download the product from My Account - My Purchases menu and visit the JV-LinkDirectory Order record.
Looking forward to your thoughts and comments.
