We are glad to announce the first beta release for JV-LinkDirectory 5.5 version today. Customers who have volunteered to participate in beta testing may now download the 5.5.beta.1 version from the JV-LinkDirectory downloads section as usual. We request you to read the "Read me first" post in the JV-LinkDirectory 5.5 Beta forum before starting the beta testing. As always we will be blogging about the new features that are introducing in 5.5 in a series of blog posts starting today...
First of them is for category pages in front-end, in which we introduce 2 new filters to show listings. The filters are "Range" and "Closest" filters. As you are already aware, the category pages now show a google map with all listings of that page on it. These new filters should now simplify a map search and enable your customers to find what they want faster.
The Range filter can be used to show only those listings that are within the given distance from a starting address. Markers will appear on the map which you can click to view the listing info. You can also click on the listing title in the listing info to go to detail page of that listing. Your customer will have to provide the starting address (probably his house address!) and the range or radius in km/miles with in which he/she wants to search for listings. For e.g. show me the listings that are with in 200 miles of my residence.
The Closest filter can be used to show the listing that is closest to a given address. Marker will appear on the map which you can click to view the listing info. You can also click on the listing title in the listing info to go to detail page of that listing. Your customer will have to provide the starting address (probably his house address!) to which you JV-LinkDirectory will show the closest listing. For e.g. show me the listing that is closest to my residence.
These filters should add a good utility value for your customers to search through the listings in a category page visually.
Yet another related utility that we have introduced in this version is a utility to generate GEO coordinates for addresses of listings in bulk in JV-LinkDirectory backend. If you have modified the google map fields in Extra Fields section or if you wish to recalculate the geo coordinates and redraw the maps again, then you can run this utility to regenerate it for all your links in backend in bulk.
We have moved to a new library for charts in JV-LinkDirectory dashboard to display revenue and link inclusion numbers. You can see the new charts in action in the Dashboard screen.
Just like Joomla Core articles and K2, we have now introduced EasyBlog 5.x integration with JV-LinkDirectory too. With this integration, you can now do the following:
JV-LinkDirectory has been modified extensively to use only JQuery from this version. All instances and usages of Mootools have been replaced with JQuery equivalents. This should certainly eliminate the requirement to load Mootools just for JV-LinkDirectory.
Ability to create 100% coupon codes is now possible from 5.5 version. This will enable you to provide such coupons as a complimentary gesture or as a trial to start with.
We hope you like these new features and changes. Please comment and let us know what you think.
Stay tuned for more feature updates in upcoming blog posts.
